A new lube truck body from Sage Oil Vac designed for Class 5 truck chassis made its debut at the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis this March.
“It’s a steel body with aluminum boxes and aluminum skins,” company president Aaron Sage said at the show. “So we’re trying to keep it good and light.”
The chassis weight of about 8,000 pounds and the equipment weight of around 6,000 pounds adds up to 14,000 pounds, leaving plenty of payload to come in under the 19,500-pound limit for requiring a commercial driver’s license, Sage pointed out.
Suitable for oil changes
“It’s going to be well suited for a contractor that’s not using it for their fuelling truck, but for their oil change and top off and maintenance truck,” Sage said, adding that it will be great for an original equipment dealer such as Caterpillar or John Deere to service their equipment.
The model — 55AB-6201 — has six fluid tanks, a used oil tank, and an antifreeze tank. “And we can configure it with used antifreeze and new antifreeze or just new antifreeze only used antifreeze if they’re going to be doing any antifreeze exchanges in the field,” Sage said.
The truck works with Sage’s vacuum and pressure system and has its own standalone air compressor.
A Vanair compressor was mounted on the truck at the Work Truck Show, although it can be outfitted with a compressor from other manufactures. It can also be outfitted with a diesel-powered compressor.
“Then we’re not idling the truck,” Sage said. “So it’s going to be efficient that way. Our system uses less compressed air than a traditional pump system because we’re conserving the energy on the vacuum in the pressure to dispense.”
Will also fit Class 6
While specifically designed for a Class 5 chassis, the 55AB-6201 lube body will also fit a Class 6 chassis “if someone wants a little beefier truck,” Sage said, adding that it wouldn’t be suitable for a Class 4 chassis, though.
At the Work Truck Show, the reel cabinet at the back of the display truck utilized analog controls. However, the system can be outfitted with Sage’s NextLube digital control system, as was the case with a 55AB-6201 lube body that Sage took to ConExpo-Con/Agg in Las Vegas the following week.
Sage’s pressure and vacuum system allows filling of product from a bulk fill panel on the driver’s side of the truck. “You don’t have to get up on top to fill if you don’t want to. And that keeps the operator from climbing up on top,” Sage said.
Other features on the 55AB-6201 lube body include “a nice mechanics drawer” from EZ Stak, and a side cabinet for storing air and oil filters and other supplies “you’re going to need to do oil changes,” Sage said.
