British Columbia expands its CleanBC Specialty-Use Vehicle Incentive (SUVI) and Commercial Vehicle Pilot (CVP) programs to offer up to $100,000 in rebates towards the purchase of electric medium/heavy duty vehicles. The new rebates double those that are already in place and cover up to 1/3 of the cost of eligible vehicles.
The StrongerBC economic recovery plan will supply $31 million in funding for businesses, government, public sector and non-profit organizations looking to expand their fleet of zero-emission vehicles. Provincial organizations also have access to $11 million in funding through British Columbia’s CVP program for pilot projects and larger deployments.
The province stated that commercial vehicles account for nearly 60% of British Columbia’s transportation related emissions, as well as 22% of total emissions in 2018.
“Through CleanBC, we’re making cleaner options more affordable to help businesses recover and save on costs while doing their part to reduce air pollution,” said Bruce Ralston, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Low Carbon Innovation.
Vehicles eligible for rebates include battery, electric or hydrogen fuelled passenger buses, airport and port service vehicles, heavy-duty transport trucks, as well as smaller specialty vehicles such as motorcycles, cargo e-bikes and low-speed utility trucks.
Organizations and businesses applying for funding must deploy at least six Class 3-4 or three Class 5-6 zero emissions vehicles to receive support, however there is no minimum set for Class 7 or 8 vehicles.
