The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) has announced that John Somers will take over as its Vice-President, Construction & Utility Sector, as of October 21, 2021.
Somers replaces Megan Tanel, who is herself succeeding AEM President Dennis Slater effective Jan. 1, 2022.
Somers, who joined the AEM in 2007, is responsible for the strategic direction of AEM’s construction and utility programs and services and will serve as main liaison to its CE Sector Board and with CE-specific industry organizations, customer groups and government agencies globally.
“I’m very pleased to announce John Somers’ promotion to Vice-President, Construction & Utility Sector,” said Tanel, AEM President-select. “John has led the charge with our sector member groups and delivered on AEM priorities and initiatives that build momentum for our industry. His expertise, enthusiasm and industry knowledge will help us achieve continued success.”
Somers also serves on the Next Practices Advisory Committee with the Common Ground Alliance (CGA), which encourages innovation and new practices to address challenges in the damage prevention industry. He also helped lead the development of the industry’s telematics standard and currently manages AEM’s Engine Emissions Strategy Task Force which is addressing potential regulation impacts on manufacturers and end-users.
AEM is an international trade group representing off-road equipment manufacturers and suppliers with more than 1,000 companies and more than 200 product lines in the agriculture and construction-related industry sectors worldwide.
