Mack Trucks has surpassed a significant benchmark in its connected vehicle technology journey, with over 200,000 Class 8 trucks equipped with its proprietary telematics gateway since 2014. This milestone highlights Mack’s dedication to enhancing customer uptime through advanced connectivity solutions.
Every connected Mack truck benefits from 24/7 support provided by Mack OneCall agents at the company’s Uptime Center, ensuring consistent service for customers.
"This milestone represents more than just connected trucks; it demonstrates our commitment to providing customers with the tools and support needed to maximize uptime and operational efficiency,” explained Jonathan Randall, President of Mack Trucks North America. "Every connected Mack truck on the road today benefits from our integrated approach to vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and performance optimization. Connected vehicles include diagnostics through Mack GuardDog Connect, remote software updates via Mack Over The Air, and fleet monitoring services through the Mack Connect portal.”
The telematics gateway, standard on Mack trucks with Mack engines since late 2014, powers several services. Mack GuardDog Connect provides proactive diagnostics and repair planning by monitoring critical fault codes.
It immediately alerts customers to issues, categorizing them by severity and offering detailed repair information to support decision-making.
Mack Over The Air (OTA) enables remote software updates, reducing unplanned downtime by over 24 percent. This feature allows customers to maintain optimal truck performance without requiring shop visits.
The Mack Connect portal delivers real-time insights into vehicle location, fuel economy, and safety metrics, helping fleet managers optimize operations. It also integrates GuardDog and OTA data, giving customers comprehensive visibility into vehicle status and performance.
Through real-time vehicle data, Mack Connect supports proactive maintenance under Mack’s service contracts, tailoring service recommendations to actual operating conditions.
"The real power of having 200,000 connected vehicles lies in how this technology actively supports our customers’ businesses,” said Patrick Brown, Director of Strategy at Mack Trucks. "These connected services help our customers maximize productivity and uptime through innovative technology and comprehensive support, ultimately leading to a better return on their investment in Mack trucks.”
