Keestrack scalpers K3, K4, and K5 have now been standardized with LLG (Long Life Grease) to increase operator uptime.
Headquartered in Munsterbilzen, Limburg, Belgium, but with North American headquarters—for both Canadian and US customers—in Krum, Texas, Keestrack designs and manufactures mobile screening, mobile jaw crushers, and crushing equipment for the construction industry.
The grease contains anti-wear and anti-friction additives and is resistant to water and rust. It extends service intervals, lowers costs and downtime, and expands the lifetime of the bearings of the screen box and apron feeder by running at lower temperatures.
The LLG grease is also resistant to high-impact loads and vibrations and can handle an ambient temperature of -25°C to +145°C (-13°F to +293°F).
Providing Service Without Service
The service interval of the LLG grease is five to 10 times longer when compared to standard EP2 grease.
For example, the greasing of the screen box has been reduced from needing to be done every 50 hours to only every 500 hours with the LLG grease.
This creates more uptime for the operator, fewer man hours required to perform the greasing task, and also provides savings on the actual lubrication itself.
Operating Temperature
The operating temperature of the bearings is much lower with LLG grease compared to standard EP2 grease.
In one test where the EP2 grease was compared against the LLG grease on the screen box of a Keestrack K5 scalper, the bearings were running at an operating temperature of up to 60°C (140°F) with standard EP2 grease, while with LLG grease they were running at an operational temperature of 43°C (109.4°F), a significant difference.
The use of LLG grease, featuring a lower operating temperature, has provided a huge positive effect on the lifespan of the bearings—more uptime, less downtime, and fewer costs.
Private Label
To emphasize the unique characteristics of this grease, the cartridges are branded under the Keestrack private label.
The LLG grease is available in 400-ml tubes and can be easily applied by an ergonomic hand pump.
The cartridges are made with a screwable cap, so they cannot be mixed up with other classic grease pumps.
Operators may apply the grease by the handpump.
The company said that because it is standardizing the LLG for the K3, K4, and K5 scalpers, the previously available central greasing operation will no longer be available—only six bearings have to be greased every 500 hours.
The greasing nipples are well indicated by the green labels on the machine with clear instructions.
