California – Volvo Trucks, a leader in the service truck industry, is pleased to announce it has delivered two of its VNR Electric Trucks to Penske Truck Leasing. The rental company will acquire two battery electric class 8 models at its South California facility.
“With Penske Truck Leasing operating over 330,000 vehicles globally, Volvo Trucks sees this as an incredible opportunity to collaborate with their team to deploy zero tailpipe emission VNR Electrics and help other businesses achieve their sustainable transportation goals,” said Peter Voorhoeve, President of Volvo Trucks North America.
Volvo is committed to growing its position in the rising market of electric trucks and are eager to continue developing new vehicles. Along with the trucks ease of recharging and innovative technological features, the positive impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the public health environment is a focus for the Volvo LIGHTS (Low Impact Green Heavy Transport Solutions) project.
“As early adopters, Penske Truck Leasing is helping lead the deployment of zero-emission trucks in Southern California through the Volvo LIGHTS project,” said Wayne Nastri, Executive Officer of the South Coast Air Quality Management District Organization, a partner of the Volvo LIGHTS project. “By reducing emissions in the local freight logistics industry, we can help deliver cleaner air to the region.”
The two seem to be a perfect match, as both companies share common goals of increasing the presence of electric vehicles while upholding the standards truck drivers expect. If all goes well, we can expect to see future deliveries from Volvo to Penske.
“Our companies share a common mission of providing top-tier, comprehensive service to help fleets maximize uptime and reliability. We look forward to seeing positive results with these first two battery-electric units and working alongside Penske to expand its VNR Electric fleet in the future.”
